Trimester 1 reflection

After the 1st trimester was over I definitely felt a sense of accomplishment, as I learnt a lot during those few 4 months. I am very pleased with my grades so far. However, on my 'keynote project' I found that I was graded very harshly, and I feel I didn't deserve a C+. But other than that I am very glad.


During the whole trimester my goal was to increase my ability to write characters. I feel that I tried especially hard on this and I am very happy with my progress. My effort to push myself to excel at this has paid off and I feel I have gotten better at this, though I still need more practice.

Like I said in the last paragraph, I really excelled in my character writing and reading. This class focus' more on reading and writing than my previous ones, and I have improved quit ea lot in this area of comprehension. Though I have also learned some new vocabulary.

To improve my mandarin even more this trimester, I plan to study my dictation vocabulary and ask more questions to completely understand the characters/words. I think my 'plan' last trimester was very successful and I want to continue in my good studying habits.

Name: Sonja English Level : Intermediate Grade: 7

What is your difficulty in learning Mandarin?

At the moment I struggle with reading and writing but my speaking is above the expected level. So at the end of the year I aim to be able to read and write to the same ability as my peers.

Please list your goals in different areas:

Listening: To be able to recognize full-length sentences, not just phrases or specific vocabulary/words.

Oral: To be able to speak at an ‘advanced’ level, and beyond the current curriculum, for optimum learning, and to be able to use my knowledge in chats/conversations.

Reading: To be able to have the same reading ability as the rest of my peers, so I can catch up to the status of which they learned last year.

Character Writing: To be able to write from memory and move forward from the basic characters.

Classroom participation: I would like to be able to raise my hand more often to participate in class discussions more, but over all I’m quite happy at my performance though.

For achieving my goal, I would like to do:

Listening: To try and ask questions if I do not understand the teacher when speaking mandarin.

Reading: I can study my ‘textbook’ more often as well as read basic mandarin stories.
